In the 1950's a German teenage boy Michael Berg (David Kross) falls for a woman named Hanna Schmitz (Kate Winslet) who helps him recover from scarlet fever. Their love affair revolves around literature and sex. Then Hanna mysteriously disappears, only to show up again under unexpected circumstances. Kate Winslet won an Oscar for best actress.
